Moravia CSD Set to Host Critical Incident Training
-
Dear Community,
The Moravia Central School District would like to inform you that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting Critical Incident Trainings at our schools during the week of February Break. These trainings will take place from Monday, February 19 to Thursday, February 22 from 8AM to 4PM.
During these dates, please do not be alarmed by seeing multiple police vehicles in our parking lots or an influx of police officers running in and out of the buildings. We hope that by allowing the Sheriff’s Department to train in our schools, it will help them keep up with modern tactics to deal with school-related emergencies, as well as to better familiarize themselves with the interior of our buildings in the case of an emergency. We would like to thank the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department in advance for providing these trainings and supporting the safety of our students and community.Below is a set of questions and answers you may have related to these trainings.
Incident Training Q&A
-
Q: What is the purpose of this training?
A: These trainings prepare and empower individuals to react to critical incidents that may take place at a school. These trainings also raise awareness and provide law enforcement with valuable skills needed to respond to critical incidents.
-
Q: When will the trainings take place?
A: The trainings are scheduled during February Break (Monday, February 19 to Thursday, February 22 from 8AM to 4PM).
-
Q: Who will be running the trainings?
A: The trainings will be held by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department.
-
Q: Why is Moravia CSD hosting these trainings?
A: Each year, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department asks a school district in Cayuga County to host these trainings. By rotating through different districts each year, it allows officers to become familiar with the interior of each building, which will ultimately help in the case of any emergency call, whether it be a medical or criminal situation.
-
Q: What will the trainings consist of?
A: The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department will conduct walkthroughs of both buildings. The CCSD will be utilizing Moravia Middle School as the core component of their scenario-based training exercises so that part of the building will be closed and off limits for the public. That includes any students, staff or maintenance personnel during those days. They will also be utilizing the south parking lot of the high school/middle school as the staging area for their patrol vehicles during this training.
-
Q: Will this affect the hours of the fitness center?
A: The trainings are scheduled to take place from 8AM to 4PM, so there may be a slight delay for visitors of the fitness center on those days, which usually opens at 3PM.
-
Q: How will practices for the musical and athletic teams be affected?
A: The areas of the building where athletes or students participating in the musical will not be directly involved in the training. All coaches and directors have been made aware of this event and have adjusted accordingly.
