Welcome to Mr. Schubmehl's House of History |
Hello, history fanatics and all other visitors (everyone is welcome here)!
It's nice to have you here. I hope you enjoy our time together :-).
On this site, you will find a class overview, class notes, PPTs used in class, as well as Photo Story and Movie Maker presentations used in class, classroom assignments, tentative quiz and test dates, helpful quiz hints, hyperlinks to websites used in class, etc.
Global and AP students will find assignments, tentative quiz/test dates, etc. on the Homework/Quizzes/Test page.
Unit/Chap material forGlobal - usually titled with the chap/unit number or name.
AP material is grouped together on the AP History page.
You will find other useful links for both classes as well on the main page.
HTF links are separated by the individual movies/topics.
Global students you should always read the chapter we are covering, to fill in any gaps left in the class material.
At the very least it is your responsibility to use the book, and other resources, to help you look up Study Guide questions that may
NOT have been covered in class and/or help assist you with your hw.
APWH students starting with chapter 17 you will be ASSIGNED the reading; you will be assessed on
the material with quizzes on the reading. A typical chapter will consist of 3 - 5 quizzes on the reading and/or vocab.
AP and Global students if you have any questions about drops, extra credit, assessments, etc please be sure to see me.
Unfortunately, this is still a very surreal time with a great deal of uncertainty. Please remember we are in it together. My door is always open. If you have a concern and don't have the time to stop in, don't feel comfortable, etc please email me and I will be sure to get back to you. If I don't have an answer, I will do my best to get an answer. Looking forward to seeing everyone again and hoping for a great year.
"Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by,
that here, obedient to their laws, we lie."
- what famous battle is quote alluding to?
There are numerous changes and additions on many pages; that will hopefully improve the quality of info on the various pages. For the PPT presentations be aware that you will not have the songs, sound clips, etc that were with the PPT when it was played in class - they will not be on the computer you are viewing it on (unless that computer is my classroom computer). However, you will still be able to view the PPT. The hw, quizzes, and test page is updated regularly so check there to keep track of what is taking place in the class.
To reference a specific unit/chapter simply click on the link for that topic; you will find these links to the right-hand side of this page. Please note that you will not be able to view PPT presentations, Photo Story, etc if you do not have that application on the computer you are using.
Useful History Websites - not only will we look at these sites in class, but they are also excellent sources of historical information.
A couple of great sports sites
Main Text: The Earth and It's Peoples Bulliet, et, al
Students in this course will learn to see the "big picture" in history. Throughout the year they will come to understand the various themes that serve as unfying forces in human history.
Please remember that if you are viewing either of these PPTs on a computer other than my classroom computer the sound clips (and songs) will not play.
You Tube sites of bomb tests viewed in class
Be sure that you pay close attention to the directions for the Cold War Review Panels if you choose to use Germany During the Cold War (located below) to help give you ideas.
"Einsatzgruppen" (main page)
Click on "Aktion Reinhard" and read "Gas Chambers @ . . . . "
Click on "Surviviors Stories" and read "Rivka . . . . (2nd one)" and read "Chaim . . . . (6th one)"
For the loons (or less informed if you wish me to be nicer ;-) )
On this page you will find the class material for Korea/Vietnam
Please note that you will not be able to print the scans out as they are. There are four worksheets that are scans, they are
1. Korea/Vietnam causes 2. Korea/Vietnam T/F 3. Vietnam - Political Cartoon DBQ 4. Vietnam - Rdg analysis
Not to worry though, there is a simple solution. To print out one of the scans follow these easy steps - 1. click on the link to open the scan 2. right click on the scan and select "save picture as" 3. Save the picture - be sure to remember what you name it and where you save it to 4. Open the saved picture and print - you will have the worksheet
For any of the other links click on the link and you will have the word document.
Vietnam Fact vs Fiction
Here is the website we looked at in class for the Vietnam Fact vs Fiction (Tuesday 3/31) - please remember I will be adding at least two or three of these on the test next week. (info as written doc)
(same info but in more of a listed manner)
The questions that were on the overhead in class can be found below.
Virtual Vietnam Memorial
All the names that are on the actual wall in Washington D.C. are on here as well as remembrances for many of them.
To find someone there are a few options
1. If you know his name you may search by name
2. If you don't know the person's name or are uncertain on the spelling you can search by city
3. If you are not sure what city the individual you are searching for listed as their "city of record" you can search by state
4. If none of the above helps but you happen to know what day he died you can search by day (far right side)
To utilize any of the above options you simply click on the search tab at the top (underneath the virtual wall tab)

End of the year RE Review
Come into my classroom during 10th and/or a SH and work on RE rev material. The first things I will have you work on are Rev pkts that cover the end of Global 9 and the transition to Global 10. You will be allowed to work with a partner, or partners, on this. If you are able to stay on task and work diligently you will be allowed to continue working like that (as often as you come in). If you prefer to work by yourself that is fine too. I will give the group an answer key to check yourselves when you are done, or as you finish each section. If you have questions, that you cannot figure out on your own, ask me and I will be happy to explain it to you. The past 15 years have categorically shown that the more times you come in for review, the better prepared for the RE you are. Every time you come in for review I mark you down - you earn one point onto your MP test and quiz scores EACH time you come in! Every 8 times you come in (8 NOT 7 or 6) results in an extra point being added onto the MP AVERAGE (after I add the points you earned onto your test grades). Every 10-12 times (TBD) you come in will result in an extra quiz grade being dropped for the MP (for YOU).
